Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) was first introduced on the Lancer Evolution. This technology combines the use of a center differential to vary power from the front to rear wheels as needed along with Active Yaw Control (AYC), which varies engine torque between the left and right wheels on the rear axle. It utilizes various vehicle sensors to detect cornering speed, lateral acceleration and steering angle, among other things, and makes decisions about which wheel requires greater torque at any given moment. In the Lancer Evolution, the driver has 3 setting choices (Snow, Gravel, Tarmac). For the Outlander GT, AYC is replaced with an Active Front Differential (AFD). This helps vary engine torque between the left and right wheels on the front axle for increased traction. The driver has a choice of settings (Snow, Tarmac, and Lock).
