What is Android Enterprise Enrollment?

Android Enterprise is a Google-led initiative to enable the use of Android devices in the enterprise workplaces. Android Enterprise Enrollment enables large scale, fast, easy, and secure Android deployments across devices in the enterprises. Especially when it comes to using Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) solutions, Android Enterprise offers enrollment options to allow IT admins to rapidly secure their devices with the EMM software of their choice. Zero touch Enrollment is one of the 3 enrollment options that are available, the other 2 common Android Enterprise enrollment options are the QR Code Enrollment and the NFC Enrollment.

What are the Differences between three Enrollment Methods?
The goal of using Android Enterprise to deploy large scale Android devices with the choice of EMM solution elected by the enterprise. The 3 main enrollment options are Zero touch Enrollment, QR Code Enrollment, and the NFC Enrollment. Each option presents its own deployment processes, and offers a different degree of complexity and security support.

1. Zero Touch Enrollment
To prepare for the Zero touch enrollment, the IT admins must enter the Device IDs and other configuration information on to the Zero Touch portal before the enrollment will take place. Android devices are forced to be secured with the EMM of choice when they are connected to the internet. This option is the most secure but requires access to the internet, and is best fitted for enterprises that lets the field users to operate the initial setup of the devices.

2. QR Code Enrollment

The Enrollment QRCode is generated by the EMM software used by the enterprise. Device users must manually scan the Enrollment QRCode to secure  the device with the EMM of choice. This option can be the easiest to setup and is best fitted for enterprises that manage their devices by a central IT team before sending out to the fields.

3. NFC Enrollment
A device is preconfigured to become the seed, and all other devices use NFC Bump to initiate the transfer of the Android Enterprise settings to one another. A physical seed device needs to be prepared in advance, and the device users must manually NFC-bump devices together to initiate the enrollment. This option is best fitted for enterprises that manage their devices by a central IT team before sending out to the fields. (Due to the deprecation of NFC Beam feature in latter Android versions, this options is no longer recommended for devices running  Android 10 or later)
